Harley Davidson Road King Classic – Touring
The Harley Davidson Road King Classic (FLHRC) is part of the Harley Davidson Touring range and was first introduced in 1997. Road Kings prior to the Classic were the Harley Davidson FLHR Road King (FLHR) in 1993 and the fuel injected model (FLHRI) in 1995. The Harley Davidson Touring range are referred to as ‘dressers’ or ‘sofas’ due to their size and the Road Kings look like retro cruisers.
Harley Davidson Road King Classic – Comfort & Luxury
Although they possess a large engine, the Harley Davidson Road King models are not made for raw speed; they are designed with comfort and grandeur in mind. The Harley Davidson Road King Classic models have large windshields (which are detachable) to protect the rider from wind, rain and bugs, and large hard saddlebags for carrying luggage on tour, rallies or long drives and the Harley Davidson Road King Classic is probably the sweetest of the range (and not too much more expensive than the others).
Harley Davidson Road King Classic – Original Features
The original 1997 Harley Davidson Road King Classic came with a roomy saddle (that seats two), a special exhaust design that quietened the engine at low revs, stainless steel buffalo handlebars and adjustable footboards – all of which made the Harley Davidson Road King Classic luxurious to ride. With built in ABS the brakes were designed to help the Road King Classic stop safely in all conditions and as they aren’t linked, the rider had separate control of the front and rear brakes.
Harley Davidson Road King Classic – Latest Features
Some of the further features on the latest Harley Davidson Road King Classic are it’s 1548 cc air-cooled, four stroke, V Twin engine and electronic sequential port fuel injection system (ESPFI), which gives it a healthy torque of 127 Nm/95 ft lbs @ 3500 rpm and it’s large fuel capacity (22.7 litres). Although the Harley Davidson Road King Classic is quite heavy (332-375 kg), the large engine, six-speed gear box transmission and cruise control make it smooth and enjoyable to ride. The 2-1-2 chrome exhaust with dual mufflers, front and rear suspension and electronic starter also come standard on the Harley Davidson Road King Classic. The colour options are vivid black, brilliant silver pearl, flame blue pearl and red hot sunglow.
Designed to offer a comfortable ride with nostalgic styling, the Harley Davidson Road King Classic is a favourite amongst many. The touring range has always been popular, with many State Police departments using them in past years (Chicago PD, Los Angeles PD and Iowa State to name but a few) and with famous movie stars. The Harley Davidson Road King Classic may not be the fastest bike out there (by a country mile) but youll enjoy a steady and calm ride on one of these motorcycles.
